The City Police claimed on Sunday to have raided a kite-manufacturing factory in Harbanspura area on a tip-off and arrested two accused and confiscated about 23,000 kite-making raw material.
According to DIG (Operations) Sajid Kiani, 12,628 ready-made kites, 171 chemical strollers recovered from the factory along with pulley-machine and other equipment.
The accused have confessed to supplying kites in other areas of Lahore.
The accused also tried to resist the police party during the operation.
DIG Sajid Kiani urged parents should keep their children away from this bloody game.
He vowed zero-tolerance against kite making, kite selling and kite flying activities as these elements will not be allowed to play with the lives under the guise of kite-flying.
Earlier, a college lecturer was killed near Muslim Town on Friday when a kite string slit his throat.
35-year-old Aftab Ahmad, who was a chemistry lecturer at Dyal Singh College, was going on a motorcycle on Wahdat Road when his throat came into contact with a kite string due to which he was killed on the spot.
Meanwhile, CCPO Ghulam Muhammad Dogar has suspended SHO Ichhra police station Azhar Ishaq for failing to take appropriate measures to stop kite flying in the areas of his jurisdiction.
DIG Operations Sajid Kiani, on the other hand, has issued an explanation letter to DSP Ichhra Circle.
He has also directed the DSP to take measures so that such incidents do not recur.
“Take indiscriminate action against those who play with people’s lives,” he said and added all SHOs who failed to stop kite flying in their areas would now face the music.
Kiani further said that a large number of kites, metallic strings and other material were confiscated in a raid conducted Thursday night.
