ISLAMABAD – The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) filed a petition with the Supreme Court challing the decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan to hold re-polling in for NA-75 Daska by-election.

The Commission, on February 25, had nullified the results of Feb 19 by-polls in the constituency following the rigging allegations by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz. The re-polls are set to be held on March 18.

The petition against the ECP decision was filed by PTI’s candidate Ali Asjad through his lawyer.

The petition argued that the decision is contrary to facts as the election body did not review the available records properly.

He further said that public will have to face the law and order situation again if the re-polling is held in the constituency.

He requested the apex court to declare the ECP decision null and void, besides ordering the body to release results of the by-election held on Feb 19.

The NA-75 Daska constituency faced turmoil during election as two people were shot dead during violent clashes between the PTI and PML-N.

The ECP had taken notice after 20 presiding officers of the constituency mysteriously disappeared and they submitted the results after a delay of 14 hours raising doubts of rigging.
