S K Hydro (Private) Limited developing 884 MW Suki Kinari Hydropower Project in Kaghan Valley District Mansehra successfully completed the diversion of the river Kunhar. This marks the completion of one of the major milestones of construction which will allow the Company to complete work on the Dam.
Among the distinguished guests present to witness the event were Muhammad Atif Khan Senior Minister, Taimur Saleem Khan Jhagra, Minister of Finance, Shahram Khan Tarakai, Honorable Minister for Local Government, Elections and Rural Development, Shah Jehan Mirza Managing Director of PPIB Ministry of Energy, Feng Xinglong, Vice General Manager of CGGC Group, Lin Xiaodan, Chairman of CGGC Overseas Investment Company, Zhang Shiyun, CEO of SK Hydro.
884 MW Suki Kinari Hydropower Project, with China Gezhouba Group Company (“CGGC”) as its main sponsor and majority shareholder, is one of the largest private sector hydropower initiatives in Pakistan; a run-of-the-river project it is listed as one of the Early Harvest Projects in the strategic China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The Project is expected to save Pakistan’s precious foreign exchange by producing electricity using indigenous resource while also enhancing the infrastructure and splendour of the Kaghan Valley. During construction, SK Hydro’s contractor has already employed more than 6,000 locals in the Project, mostly from the province. Flood control would be an additional benefit of the project; the construction of D&I Structure is expected to control the flood and save the community from natural disasters.
The Vice General Manager of CGGC Group Feng thanked the Ministers for their presence and congratulated all involved in the completion of the landmark achievement. He also thanked the Governments of Pakistan, Provincial Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for their kind support in the development of the Project and hoped the same would be extended in the years to come.
Senior Minister Muhammad Atif Khan congratulated Feng Xinglong and other CGGC distinguished leaders for the success achieved on this day. He also thanked the people and Government of People’s Republic of China for their friendship and standing together with Pakistan especially in the important matter of Kashmir.
