DOMESTIC trouble, notwithstanding Pakistan government of Imran Khan continues to win laurels in international arena, latest example being his successful visit to Kabul, and condemnation of OIC foreign ministers conference in Niger against Indian annexation of Kashmir in Indian Union
Ever since the PTI government came into Pakistan, it had worked very, very hard to mobilise support for Pakistan, and has substantially succeeded, whether at United Nations, or peace in the region. A solid evidence of this is Prime Minister’s successful visit to Kabul, the passage of resolution against Indian annexation of occupied Kashmir into Indian Union by the OIC foreign ministers Conference at Niger, and the unannounced visit to Pakistan by Chinese defence minister General Wei Fenghe. These are very important developments, and should convey a message to those, planning to destabilize Pakisan.
The Pakistani prime ministers’ one-on-one meeting with President Ashraf Ghani during day-long visit to Kabul brought handsome results, fruition of which will soon start to be visible. Kabul has to work calculatedly for unity among Taliban factions, and eliminate Daish or IS from its soil, because the Jihadists of their own version of Islam, are worst kind of trouble makers. Till they are eliminated completely, terrorism threat will continue to haunt the region, putting the peace desire in doldrums.
The Chinese Defence Minister’s visit to Pakistan (we don’t know whether it was pre-planned, but since there was no prior announcement, it did evoke a pleasant surprise. He not only had detailed discussion with army chief General Qamar Bajwa, prime minister Imran Khan, and the ISI chief. Prior to that prime minister Imran Khan had visited the ISI headquarters for discussion in which all the three service chiefs, ISI chief, foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, and some other important personalities were present. Such developments could not be ignored lightly, and there must have been some very sensitive issues needed to be thrashed out.
During the Chinese minister’s visit, MOUs were signed, which showed that the visit was not without meaning. What transpired obviously can not be revealed before time. But Pakistan’s biggest success was the revival of Organisation of Islam Conference, which for years had been on ventilator. Foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi kept abreast his Saudi counterpart Faisal Bin Farhan al-Saud, and also the UAE ministers at the 47th conference of the OIC foreign ministers held in Niger.
The result was heartening. 57-member Organisation of Islamic Cooperation asked India to refrain from altering the demographic structure of India-administered Kashmir that India unilaterally annexed last August, Pakistani foreign office says. The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has reiterated its “strong and unequivocal support” for disputed Kashmir in a resolution adopted unanimously in the Muslim bloc’s gathering in Niger, Pakistan said.
“The OIC categorically rejected illegal and unilateral actions taken by India since 5 August 2019,” the Pakistani foreign office said in a statement, adding the resolution demanded that India “cancel the issuance of domicile certificates to non-Kashmiris” as well as other unilateral and illegal actions there. The OIC resolution on Kahmir annexation and brutalities inflicted on local, change of domicile etc, are now on record. However Indian stubbornness remains unaltered.
