DG LDA has once again given another deadline for the completion and opening of Firdous Market underpass. As per the DG announcement, the city’s first 540-meter-long Firdous Market underpass will now be opened on November 20. It is to be recalled that the LDA chief has already issued five deadlines for completion of the underpass but could not keep his words.
The first deadline was given on September 6, 2020, the second was on September 15, the third October 6, fourth on October 15, and the fifth was issued on October 30. Now again, LDA DG Ahmed Aziz Tarar has announced November 20 as the date for inauguration of the underpass.
The Buzdar government’s plan to overcome traffic congestion is nearing completion. The DG LDA made a formal announcement on Tuesday and citizens expressed happiness over the construction of the underpass.
An important step in controlling traffic congestion in Gulberg, Firdous Market underpass is nearing completion. Chief Minister Usman Bazdar laid the foundation stone of his government’s first underpass on May 18, 2020. The total cost of the project was estimated at Rs1.746 billion and the construction cost was estimated at Rs1.09 billion. The government saved a whopping Rs130 million in construction cost through tendering and the construction cost reached Rs960 million. A deadline of 3 months had been given for construction of underpass but even on the 5th deadline, the project could not be completed. DGPHA Jawad Ahmad Qureshi said that plants are being planted for the beautification of the underpass which will further enhance its beauty.
Residents of Firdous Market expressed happiness over the completion of the project and said that the underpass would reduce traffic congestion and provide convenience to the citizens.
The two-way underpass is 540 meters long and consists of two lanes on each side. Special measures have been taken for drainage of rain water and 7 kanals of land has been acquired for the project.
