CM pledges safe working environment, protection of journalists’ rights

Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has reaffirmed her government’s commitment to protecting journalists’ rights and ensuring a safe environment for them to perform their professional duties without fear or intimidation. In a message on the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, she said the protection of journalists, press freedom and freedom of expression were essential to a democratic society.
Describing journalists as the eyes and ears of society and champions of truth, she said the government stood with those who upheld the cause of truth and would safeguard their rights. She stressed that violence against journalists for raising their voices against injustice and falsehood must end.
