Caretaker CM declares election turnout splendid CEC hails admin for maintaining law, order during GB polls

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gilgit-Baltistan Raja Shehbaz Khan on Sunday telephoned the Chief Secretary GB to discuss the law and order situation during ongoing general elections in the region. Both the officials discussed the process of polling and the situation of the sensitive polling stations in the region. The GB CS apprised the CEC that polling is underway in a peaceful manner in Diamer and other sensitive declared polling stations.
CEC Raja Shehbaz Khan expressed satisfaction over the arrangements made by the local administration to maintain law and order situation and lauded their efforts. ‘We all have to ensure peaceful polling in GB’, Raja Shehbaz said. Voting underway for the general elections of Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly amid tight security. The polling started at 8am and will continue until 5 pm without any break. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Muslim League (Q), Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) are among the parties contesting for the 23 constituencies of the GB assembly.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Raja Shehbaz Khan on Sunday also visited central control room established to monitor general elections in Gilgit-Baltistan. According to details, the CEC inspected arrangements at the control room while Gilgit-Baltistan’s chief secretary also briefed him on the occasion. Raja Shehbaz expressed satisfaction over performance of the local administration in conducting the polls.
It is to be mentioned here that the polling for GB elections started at 8am and will continue until 5 pm without any break. As many as 330 candidates including four women were contesting the general elections in 23 constituencies of GB Assembly. Elections have been delayed in GBLA-3 following the death of PTI Gilgit-Baltistan President retired Justice Jaffer Shah from coronavirus. At least 126,997 fresh voters are expected to poll their right of vote in general elections of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Caretaker Chief Minister (CM) Gilgit Blatistan Haji Mir Afzal has declared the turn out in Gilgit Baltistan general elections splendid. Talking to media after casting his vote, Caretaker Chief Minister Gilgit Blatistan said that the polling in the transparent Gilgit Baltistan elections is continued peacefully.
