The Federal Capital on Friday reported the highest single-day count in the last four months as the health authorities reported 357 new cases in a 24 hours period. With this latest count the total number of coronavirus infections has jumped to 23,122 while two deaths in one day, has taken the toll to 250.
Meanwhile, the Islamabad district and health authorities on Friday sealed four more schools after reporting of coronavirus cases there.
Among the schools and colleges that were closed on the orders of the District Health Officer Dr Zaeem Zia include the Islamabad Model School for Girls I-9/4 (two cases were reported), a private school in DHA Phase-I (two cases were reported), the Army Public School G-11/1 (three cases were reported) and the Islamabad Model School G-9/2 (two cases were reported).
With these latest additions to the list of sealed schools, a total of 95 schools and colleges and also universities stand sealed in the federal capital due to coronavirus.
According to Dr Zaeem, four educational institutions were de-sealed as well as they had completed their quarantine duration and all the necessary precautions were made there.
Dr Zaeem in social media post commented we are doing as much as we can, our surveillance teams are out there 24/7 to contain the spread.
Islamabad’s Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat has said that the district government and health authorities were taking all the necessary measures to check the spread of coronavirus.
In Islamabad, recently we conducted 6,000 cases but if we see in other cities the number is far below, he said.
About the marquees, DC Shafqaat said all the marquees owners have been directed to close their indoor business after November 20. In the open places, too, not more than 1,000 guests are allowed, he said.
While responding to a report that the youngsters are more likely to get infected with coronavirus, Deputy Commissioner Hamza Shafqaat said in Islamabad there was not a single case of coronavirus below 30 that has died because of the virus.
He quoted only one case of 26 years that too in the initial days of coronavirus and the person was already suffering from a number of other diseases.
A day earlier it was reported that most affected age group is 50-59 in which the infection rate per 10,000 is 271 that is followed by 215 in 60-69, 211 each in 30-39 and 40-49, 188 in 70-79, 155 in 80 and above, 120 in 20-29, and 36 each at 0-9 and 10-19, the officials stated, adding the overall infection rate per 10,000 people in the capital is 109.
