CM’s aide inspects rescue work at building collapse site

Waqar Mehdi, Special Assistant to Chief Minister Sindh, inspected the work of removing debris and evacuation of trapped people in Korangi. He gave instructions to the staff and party workers engaged in rescue operation at the accident site, encourages the victims. The heart is saddened by the loss of human lives, shares the grief of the affected families, said Mehdi “We will hold a high level inquiry into the collapse of the building. We will bring those involved to justice. The building was built illegally, based on a plot acquired through China Cutting,” he said, appealing that people should stay away from buying and selling illegally constructed buildings. Participation of PPP workers in rescue operation is a mirror of responsible political workers, Waqar Mehdi concluded. Meanwhile, Sindh Building Control Authority (SCBA) Korangi Director Asif Rizvi said the building was constructed illegally. “The building was constructed on China-cutting land,” he said, adding that it had no map or approval. This is the third such incident to have taken place in the metropolis this year. In June, a five-storey building collapsed in Karachi resulting in thedeaths of at least 22 people. In March, a building collapsed in the Gulbahar area, killing 27 peopleand injuring at least 17 others
