The Sindh government has declared 20 districts to be calamity-affected following record-breaking monsoon rains. These killed at least 80 people Provincially including 47 in Karachi.
“Sindh Govt has declared 20 districts of Sindh to be calamity affected under the Sindh Calamities Act of 1958,” the provincial government spokesperson Murtaza Wahab said in a tweet on Saturday.
“The Deputy Commissioners of the districts which have been declared calamity affected shall immediately assess specific losses and move for compensation,” read the notification issued by the provincial relief department.
On Friday, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah while acknowledging the heavy losses to life and property across the province said they would be compensated accordingly.
Announcing the fatalities at a press conference, he said incidents of drowning, electrocution and roof collapses caused the deaths of 47 people in Karachi, while in Hyderabad lightning.
