CABINET is supreme decision-making body of any government and the people face the brunt when the decisions taken at this forum are not implemented.The same is happening in our country. Over the last few months, one has seen the cabinet taking decisions time and again regarding taking action against the hoarders of essential commodities but so far no such thing has been seen on the ground. Cabinet at its meeting the other day once again decided to launch crackdown against the hoarders of sugar and wheat. Inaction only emboldens these mafias to further rob the pockets of the poor consumers. The result is that today the prices of both wheat and sugar have gone beyond the reach of common man and this has also greatly hurt the popularity of PTI government. Credit definitely goes to the present government that it exposed the sugar and wheat cartels by making public the report of Inquiry Commission. The increase in their prices could have also been averted had the government initiated timely action against them instead of mere resorting to lip service. Two years of PTI government have passed and it would have to do some retrospection of the areas where they failed miserably. Course correction is need of the hour if the PTI really wants to fulfil the promises made with the masses and stay relevant in the politics. Time has come that these mafias and hoarders are brought to the task immediately and a proper mechanism is evolved to check the prices of essential commodities. The Cabinet in its last meeting also allowed parliamentarians to become members of the boards of government departments, authorities and commissions provided they do not avail any perks and privileges in the process. Indeed there are certain parliamentarians whose inputs can prove to be valuable in reviving the public sector departments but it must also be ensured that they do not unnecessarily interfere in their matters as it will have direct bearing on their working and performance.
