Sindh Minister for Local Government and Information Syed NasirHussain Shah has said that encroachments are a major obstacle for drainage of rain water and cleaning of drains. Encroachments on drains will be eliminated through immediate and effective operation. He expressed these views while presiding over a high-level meeting here on Tuesday. The meeting was also attended by NDMA Brigadier Asim Suleiman, Lt. Col. Imran, Secretary Local Government, Roshan Ali Sheikh, Commissioner IftikharShallwani and others. “In order to eliminate the encroachments on the drains in the city, I reviewed in detail the issues related to the transfer of waste from the drains to the landfill site and not to re-dump the drains in the cleaned drains and important decisions were taken. The Minister said that a policy of merit would be adopted to eliminate encroachments on drains and no one would be allowed to be abused during the operation and the process would be made transparent during the removal of encroachments. He said that we are fortunate that the esteemed Supreme Court is also with us regarding the elimination of encroachments and there are also clear orders of the esteemed court in this regard. Due to the report of the court, the work of the government has become easier. To provide arrangements and relief for drainage of rain water The meeting also discussed in detail the short and long term projects including cleaning of drains. On this occasion, NDMA also gave a briefing on drain cleaning and other issues and discussed in detail. While Secretary Local Government Roshan Ali Sheikh briefed the meeting about the details regarding drainage and sanitation of the city by the Local Government Department and informed about the government projects. He assured the NDMA of full cooperation from him and the Sindh government and said that all the DMCs including MC Water Board, Sindh Solid Waste Management Board and all concerned local bodies should be involved in the improvement of the city including drainage.
