The District Health Office of Islamabad has recommended mini lockdown in a few streets of three sectors I-8/2, G-9/4 & G-10/4 after emergence of Covid-19 cases there.
The DHO has also recommended to the district administration to impose mini lockdown in the National Police Foundation (NPF) over detection of a number of cases.
While talking to Pakistan Observer, the District Health Officer of Islamabad Dr Zaeem Zia said, “We are moving to impose another but ‘mini’ lockdown in Islamabad mostly in the residential compounds and for now it would be street-wise in the areas where cases are on the rise.”
According to a letter issued on Saturday, the DHO ICT Surveillance Teams conducted the Covid-19 surveillance activities in different sectors and it is observed that cases of Covid-19 are increasing in the streets 38, 45, 46, 47 and 48 and Sawan Road adjacent to Street 48 in G-10/4.
The letter also points out Streets 25 and 29 in the Sector I-8/2 and streets 85 and 89 in the Sector G-10/4 where cases of coronavirus are on the rise.
The teams of the DHO are continuously conducting sampling from these areas to quarantine people in order to avoid further transmission of covid-19 in the community the letter further said.
In the letter the DHO has also recommended to the administration of the district to seal these streets as per the criteria of smart lockdown.
Islamabad on Saturday reported 88 new cases of coronavirus in a period of twenty-four hours, another high number, taking the total number of infections to 17,210. However, no death was reported during the period. So far, 188 casualties have taken place in the federal capital because of Covid-19.
The number of recoveries in the federal capital is also close to 17,000 ie. 16,297. Meanwhile, the district administration teams inspected a total of 173 places including shops, hotels and restaurants to see whether they were following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for coronavirus.
According to a statement of the district government, after finding violation of SOPs 32 restaurants / hotels, 47 shops and one workshop were sealed. A strict warning was given to the 17 wedding halls and an amount of Rs78,000 fine was also imposed for not following health guidelines.
