SAHIWAL – An oil tanker carrying approximately 44,000 litres of petrol overturned on the National Highway near Sahiwal’s Chichawatni, the motorway police said on Monday.
The motorway police and the rescue teams reached the spot soon after receiving the information about overturned tanker.
Motorway Police Central Region spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmed said that the rear section of the tanker overturned while the main vehicle remained on the road.
The initial reports suggested that the accident occurred after the driver fell asleep at the wheel.
The motorway police personnel reached the scene and cordoned off the affected area as a precaution. Rescue teams, district police and local administration officials also arrived to assist with emergency operations and ensure public safety.
The spokesperson said no petrol leakage had been reported at the site and traffic on the highway remained fully operational.
However, the motorway police diverted vehicles to alternative routes as part of precautionary arrangements. The relevant departments were also called in to assist with rescue operations and strengthen safety measures.
The local authorities continued their response at the scene to prevent any potential hazards from the overturned tanker.
