Relief For Islamabad Residents As Containers Being Removed After 24 Days

ISLAMABAD – In a relief for residents and commuters, authorities have starting removing containers placed across Islamabad more than three weeks ago due to the PTI’s long march.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Captain (retd) Sohail Chaudhry has issued the instruction in this regard.

Reports said the relevant authorities have been directed to ensure that no containers remain visible on any road by evening.

Containers had been placed at the capital’s entry and exit points, major highways and the Red Zone for the past 24 days, affecting movement across different parts of the city.

The removal process is expected to bring relief to residents and commuters who have faced disruptions due to the roadblocks.

The containers were brought to Islamabad on October 19 in view of a planned long march by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

A day earlier, the federal government imposed emergency measures and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after President Asif Ali Zardari approved the cabinet’s recommendations under Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution.

The decision followed a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, where members expressed concern over the provincial government’s alleged lack of engagement in counterterrorism efforts amid the deteriorating security situation.
