TEXAS – Mike Tyson, one of the legendary boxers, faced YouTuber Jake Paul but the Mike’s glory faded away in what is said to be a staged showdown.
Jake Paul, who amassed millions of followers on social media, claimed a one-sided victory over ‘Iron Mike’ in a highly anticipated yet flop boxing game on Friday night at AT&T Stadium. Jake pounded Mike as the latter’s health struggles and physical decline rendered him a shadow of the legendary fighter he used to be in his mid-80s.
The game ended with Paul winning by unanimous decision with scores of 79-73 from two judges and 80-72 from the third. In the bout, Mike was no longer capable of competing at high level, as he appeared slow and frail, with his trademark speed and aggression nowhere to be seen.
Mike, one feared for his ferocity in the ring, now seemed to be mere shadow of former self, taking punches from Paul with resignation rather than responding with the explosive counters that once made him a boxing icon.
Tyson apparently failed to mount any serious offense against the younger, as the fight became less of a competitive contest and more of a sad showdown.
Despite his lack of boxing experience, Paul cruised through the rounds, landing clean shots while Tyson’s movements became increasingly sluggish. The crowd with boos echoing in the final rounds as the reality of the mismatched contest set in.
Before the fight, Tyson’s disillusionment with the entire affair was evident. As Paul walked away with his victory and Tyson struggled to leave the ring, fans were shocked to see Mike losing the game, to a person who is naive to fight.
