World’s oldest person Maria Branyas Morera passed away peacefully at the age of 117, and her death made headlines across the globe as she remained fit till the last years.

Maria, who hailed from Spain, was born in the United States in 1907, lived through two pandemics, two world wars, and Spain’s civil war. Morera’s family shared the news on social media, noting that she died peacefully in her sleep. They remembered her for her wisdom and kindness.

The woman was residing in Spain for quite some time. A post shared by her social media said Morera mentioned feeling weak and accepted her approaching end with grace, asking not to mourn her departure but to celebrate her life.

Guinness World Records recognized Branyas as the oldest living person last year after the death of French nun Lucile Randon at 118.

Maria survived 1918 flu, two world wars, and Spain’s civil war, while she also gets Covid-19 virus in 2020 shortly after her 113th birthday but fully recovered.

The family members linked Maria’s unusual age with genetics, noting she had never needed hospital care or experienced significant pain. The woman herself however pushed for balanced life, including good relationships, contact with nature, and maintaining positivity. She often used a voice-to-text device later in life to communicate.

Maria’s father died from T.B long time back, and her family settled in Barcelona. She married a doctor in 1931 and lived with him for four decades until his death. The couple had three children, one of whom has passed away, along with 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Interestingly, she developed no cardiovascular disease and only experienced minor mobility and hearing issues.
