International Court of Justice on Friday has ordered Israel to stop its military offensive or any other violent actions in Rafah governorate that could led to further humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
ICJ announced the verdict on plea filed by South Africa for additional measures against genocide case against Tel Aviv.
Nawaf Salam, the President of the International Court of Justice, highlighted the Israeli military offensive that began on 7 May and has led to around 800,000 Palestinians being displaced till mid-May.
ICJ panel warned about the risks of such a military offensive, saying the risks will worsen if the offensive continues. The humanitarian situation in Rafah was termed as “disastrous,” with Judge Nawaf Salam noting that living conditions in Gaza have further deteriorated since the court’s order on 28 March, particularly regarding food deprivation.
Israeli forces started war in Gaza after Hamas-led attacks in October last year where resistance group killed around 1,200 people and abducted hundreds of people.
So far, Israeli attacks in Gaza continue and more 35,800 Palestinians have been killed in the bombardment.
