PAKISTANI women initially played the traditional role of housewives. However, with changing times, our society has also evolved. Now, women have a significant role in society. During these days of economics crisis when men are suffering from unemployment and low wages, households require all members of a family to work to add to the family’s income.
Women are now working to ensure their families enjoy a decent standard of living. Women belonging to lower income groups and rural areas have for long rendered their service to supplement their family income. Women in large numbers are acquiring higher education and entering the job market for their families’ sake. Since they are better educated they make better mothers.
Although there is greater acceptability of women in society, they are still victims of discrimination. The gender stereotypes that have existed in our society still continue to be a barrier in women’s progress. Therefore, more needs to be done to ensure they get their rights and due place in society.
