Winter Holidays in Lahore schools being extended beyond Jan 12 amid cold wave?

LAHORE – Punjab has been plunged into intense cold wave, with temperatures dipping, triggering widespread speculation over possible extension of winter holidays for schools and colleges.

As rumors spread rapidly on social media, Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat stepped in to end confusion, making it clear that all schools and colleges across Punjab will reopen on January 12 as scheduled. He strongly rejected claims of an extended break, labeling them “baseless and misleading”, and urged the public to stop believing and sharing unverified reports.

The minister reassured students, parents, and teachers that there is no change to the academic calendar, emphasizing that educational institutions must prepare to resume activities on time. His firm statement has brought clarity just days before the new term begins.

Meanwhile, Punjab continues to battle harsh winter conditions. According to the latest meteorological forecast, very cold and dry weather will persist across the province, with extremely low temperatures expected in Murree, Galiyat, and nearby hilly areas. These regions may witness cloudy skies along with light rain or snowfall during the evening and night.

Adding to the challenges, moderate to dense fog is expected to blanket several districts, raising concerns over travel disruptions and road safety. Fog is likely to affect Sialkot, Narowal, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Okara, Kasur, Sahiwal, Khanewal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Shorkot, Multan, Kot Addu, Bahawalnagar, Khanpur, Bahawalpur, and Rahim Yar Khan, significantly reducing visibility in these areas.

With icy conditions tightening their grip and schools set to reopen within days, authorities are urging citizens to stay cautious, ignore rumors, and prepare for a challenging return to routine amid Punjab’s deepening winter spell.
