LAHORE – A 20-year-old female student of Pharmacy Department at private university in Lahore allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from second floor of the university building. She was rushed to hospital in a critical condition, with doctors reporting multiple fractures, spinal injury, and trauma to her head and chest.
This tragic incident is said to be second such incident at the University of Lahore within just fifteen days. Last month, 5th-semester student Muhammad Owais took his own life by jumping from the fifth floor of the same department, sending shockwaves across the campus community.
Videos circulating on social media show terrified students carrying injured girl while blood stains cover the floor. Lahore police confirmed that she was immediately taken from the university to the connected teaching hospital and later transferred to General Hospital Lahore for intensive care.
AMS Emergency doctor, revealed that the student is in ICU. “She has fractures in both legs, a broken spine, broken ribs, multiple fractures, and head injuries,” he said. Emergency Director Yahya Sultan added that trauma to her chest required the insertion of a medical tube. A special medical board, led by Professor Jodat Saleem, has been formed to assess her condition and submit a report within 24 hours.
DIG Operations Faisal Kamran said student’s mobile phone is locked, and authorities are trying to determine who she last contacted. He stressed that the exact motive behind the alleged suicide cannot yet be established, and police will record her statement once she regains consciousness.
The university administration maintains that the student had no issues with attendance or fees, and her family denies any domestic problems.
The incident sparked immediate protests by students, leading to the suspension of classes. One student, speaking anonymously, described the university as “already depressed after Owais’s suicide, and now this has left the entire campus in a state of shock and fear.”
Muhammad Owais’s suicide last month raised questions about pressure and mental health support for students. His brother alleged harassment and exam pressure from teachers, though the university chairman, Owais Rauf, denied these claims, stating Owais was a bright student with full attendance and a CGPA of 3.14.
