Winter Holidays Alert Punjab Education Minister Warns Of Action Against Schools Holding Classes

KARACHI – Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar announced that strict action will be taken against any school operating during the holiday period.

The minister made it clear that if complaints are received from any district regarding schools being open, not only will the school administration face consequences, but the concerned CEO will also be held accountable.

Official directives have now been issued to all private and government institutions, strictly instructing them to refrain from opening schools during holidays.

Sikandar Hayat said violating government orders will be considered intolerable. He called upon school administrations and teachers to ensure full compliance with the directives and warned that failure to do so would trigger severe consequences.

This unprecedented crackdown highlights the government’s zero-tolerance stance on breaches of holiday regulations, signaling that even top officials will not escape accountability.

Winter vacations will end on January 12, minister said as he dismissed social media rumors suggesting an extension due to cold weather. He called the reports “baseless and misleading” and urged schools, colleges, and the public to adhere to the academic calendar. Cold and dry weather is expected to continue in most districts, with hilly areas like Murree and Galiyat possibly seeing light rain or snowfall in the evenings.

In Sindh, the Grand Alliance of Private School Associations (GAPSAS) announced a province-wide strike on January 9 for private schools and colleges. The move comes in protest against the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) conducting direct inspections of free admission lists, which the alliance claims exceeds legal authority under the Sindh Private Educational Institutions Act 2013.
