LAHORE – Amid ongoing harsh cold weather that caused an extension in winter holidays, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has shared an update on reopening of schools across the province.
A journalist posed a question regarding possibility of extension in winter break to the education minister during an event in Gujranwala.
The minister replied that the government had extended the holidays for one week keeping in view the safety of students and teachers.
However, he confirmed that confirmed that all public and private schools will reopen on January 19, 2026.
The minister clarified that there will be no further extension to the winter break, which started on December 20, 2025. Students have already completed 27 out of the total 30 winter holidays, and the remaining 3 days will conclude as scheduled.
The announcement comes after concerns from students and parents regarding whether schools would reopen as planned, given the severe cold weather in recent days.
However, the education minister reassured that schools will resume their regular activities from January 19.
