ISLAMABAD – Widespread rain-wind/thunderstorms and isolated hailstorms are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan on Friday evening/night, Saturday and Sunday.
As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), strong westerly wave prevails over western parts of Pakistan. It may grip most parts of the country on 13th April and may persist in upper parts till 15th April.
Under these conditions, rain-wind/thunderstorms are likely in the twin cities, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, South Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir on Friday evening/night. Heavy falls and hailstorms are also likely at isolated places in eastern/northeastern Balochistan during the period.
On Saturday and Sunday, rain-wind/thunderstorms are likely in the twin cities, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, upper Sindh, Islamabad, Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and adjoining hilly areas. Heavy falls and hailstorms are also likely at isolated places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, northeastern Balochistan and Punjab. Snowfall is also expected on high mountains in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Torrential rains may generate flash floods in local nullas of Dera Ghazi Khan, Lasbella, Khuzdar, Ziarat, Barkhan, Zhob, Sherani, Muslim Bagh, Turbat, Harnai, Kohlu, Naseerabad and Jafarabad from 12th to 14 April. Flooding may also occur in low-lying areas during the forecast period. Heavy rainfall may generate flash flooding in local nullahs/streams of Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, Manshera, tributaries of Kabul River, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir from 13th to 15th April.
Islamabad’s maximum temperatures will likely remain between 28-30 degrees Celsius on Saturday and 27-29 C on Sunday.
Rawalpindi’s maximum temperatures will likely remain between 29-31 C on Saturday and 27-29 C on Sunday.
Meanwhile, dry weather prevailed in most parts of the country during the last 24 hours. However, rain-wind/thunderstorms occurred in upper Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

Khairpur and Nawabshah remained the hottest places in the country where the maximum temperature reached 43 C.
In Islamabad, maximum temperature was recorded at 32 C. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 31 per cent.
In Rawalpindi, maximum temperature was recorded at 31 C. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 26 per cent.
