ISLAMABAD – Rain-thunderstorms with snowfall are likely in Murree, Nathia Gali and other tourist destinations in Pakistan from February 29 to March 03 (Thursday-Sunday).
As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a strong westerly wave is likely to approach western parts of Pakistan on February 29. It may grip most parts of the country on March 01, and persist till March 02.
Under the influence of this weather system, heavy rains and snowfall are likely in Murree, Nathia Gali, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Diamir, Astore, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Bagh, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur from February 29 to March 03 (Thursday-Sunday).
Heavy rains may cause flash flooding in hill torrents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Murree, Galyat on March 01-02. Heavy rain/snowfall may cause closure of roads in Murree, Galyat, Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch and Haveli on March 01-02. Landslides in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan may affect the vulnerable points in the area. Tourists are advised not to travel unnecessarily.
Murree’s minimum temperatures will likely remain between -03-01 degrees Celsius on Wednesday and Thursday.
Meanwhile, freezing weather prevailed in Murree, Nathia Gali and other tourist sites in the country during the last 24 hours.
Kalam remained the coldest place where temperature dropped 07 C below freezing.
In Murree, minimum temperature was recorded at -01 C. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 87 per cent.
