ISLAMABAD – Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz finalised three nominees for the coveted position of Punjab Governor.

The power giants under their power-sharing deal over government formation, picked PPP platform Qamar Zaman Kaira along with two other leaders for Punjab governor.

Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood and Chaudhry Riaz are also being considered for the constitutional slot.

Ahead of cabinet formation, PPP is currently holding consultations for the office of Punjab and KP governors and will announce the names of both constitutional posts after presidential elections.

Both parties agreed to form coalition government at the center, as neither party secured enough seats in the National Assembly in the February 8 general elections.

PPP, with 54 seats, agreed to support PML-N to counter SIC in the lower house of parliament. After multiple rounds of talks, both sides decided that PPP would take constitutional posts, including the presidency, for which Asif Zardari has filed nomination papers, along with Punjab and KP governorships.

On Monday, Shehbaz Sharif took the oath of office as the 24th prime minister of Pakistan, a day after being elected the premier for second time. He was administered the oath by President Arif Alvi.
