SYDNEY – Death toll in Sydney Bondi Beach shooting has climbed to 16 while 40 others are under treatment with some of them are in critical condition.

The disturbing incident has left people in shocked with global leaders condemning the terror attack. Authorities have launched an investigation into the matter and efforts are being made to collect more information about the two attackers.

Amid ongoing probe, Indian and Israeli media have started sharing unverified claims about the identity of the suspects, linking them to Pakistan. They also ran a wrong picture, causing trouble for the Pakistani man named Sheikh Naveed, who has nothing to do with the incident.

Who Were the Shooters?

The New South Wales Police said the attackers were father and son duo. They have been identified as 50-year-old Sajid Akram and his 24-year-old son Naveed Akram.

The authorities held a press conference and confirmed that one of the attackers was killed, while the other is in critical condition. The nationality of the attackers is yet to be revealed.

Police reported that the deceased attacker held a valid firearms license for the past 10 years and was also a member of a gun club.

Six weapons were found in the possession of the deceased attacker, and authorities are continuing to investigate whether these weapons were used in the shooting. Additionally, two active homemade explosive devices were recovered near the crime scene and have been safely secured.

Police have concluded that no further suspects are being sought, but they are continuing to investigate the motives behind the terrorist attack.

Although the father and son duo had been residing in Australia for some time, authorities have not yet released further details about their backgrounds.
