Weather update for Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Pakistan; heavy rains predicted

ISLAMABAD – More widespread rains with scattered heavy to very heavy and isolated extremely heavy falls are predicted in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan on Thursday night, Friday and Saturday.

Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), deep depression over Rann of Kutch, India will likely intensify into cyclonic storm during next 24 hours. A westerly wave prevails over upper parts of the country.

Under these conditions, more widespread rains are predicted in the twin cities, Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir on Thursday night and the next two days with occasional gaps.

Scattered heavy to very heavy and isolated extremely heavy falls are predicted in Tharparker, Badin, Thatta, Sajawal, Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allah Yar, Matiari, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Karachi till August 31.

Heavy rains may generate flash flooding in hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and local nullahs/streams of Karachi, Hyderabad, Dadu, Kalat, Khuzdar, Jaffarabad, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Barkhan, Loralai, Awaran, Panjgur, Washuk, Mastung and Lasbella. Heavy rains may trigger landslides in Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Downpour may cause urban flooding in low lying areas of Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Multan, Sahiwal, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Nowshera, Swabi and Peshawar.

Islamabad’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 26-28°C on Friday and 27-29°C on Saturday.

Rawalpindi’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 29-31°C on Friday and Saturday.

Meanwhile, rains with isolated heavy falls occurred in Sindh, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan and northeast Balochistan.

In Islamabad, maximum temperature was recorded at 29°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 88 per cent.

In Rawalpindi, maximum temperature was recorded at 28°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 84 per cent.
