Mexico City – At least two people were killed after a 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck southern Mexico, the preliminary reports said on Saturday.

As emergency alarms sounded and the building shook, the president calmly asked those present to evacuate the room in an orderly manner. The press conference was temporarily suspended and resumed a few minutes later after the situation stabilized.
The authorities said the earthquake measured 6.5 on the Richter scale, with its epicentre located in southern Mexico. Emergency protocols were activated in several areas following the quake.
The initial assessments suggested no major structural damage, although officials have confirmed two fatalities. Rescue and assessment operations are ongoing to determine the full impact of the earthquake.
