Watch: Heavy rainfall, strong winds wreak havoc at Peshawar airport


PESHAWAR – Heavy rainfall coincides with strong winds on Tuesday wreaked havoc at Bacha Khan International Airport located in capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Videos circulating on social media show parts of ceiling in waiting area falling down while various sign boards also broke down due to the powerful winds.

The rainfall hit the area near the airport following which the authorities have declared an emergency and called rescue officials.

The rainfall and winds were so intensified that trolleys laden with passenger’s baggage can be seen dashing outside of the airport building.

According to the meteorological department, the rains will continue intermittently for the next 24 hours.

Some social media users claimed that water started falling from several spots in the ceiling of the arrival and departure lounges.

Angry over the falling down of temporary ceiling, a users complained of poor quality of development work at the airport.

He tweeted, “Quality of development work recently done at @PeshawarAirport. Hopefully & for sure @PCAAOfficial & others will not take any notice of the corruption exposed by weather!”
