ISLAMABAD – The federal government appointed Waqar Ahmed Chauhan, a BS-21 officer of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP), as Additional Secretary, Ministry of Interior, on two-year deputation, a notification said.
A seasoned police officer with nearly three decades of public service, Chauhan brings extensive experience in policing, intelligence, and national security to the ministry. He has been serving as Assistant Inspector General (AIG), Special Branch, Islamabad, since 2011, where he has overseen intelligence collection and analysis, public order management, VVIP security arrangements, including security for foreign dignitaries, along with counterterrorism and counter-sectarianism operations.
Before joining the Special Branch, Chauhan held key operational assignments within the Police Service of Pakistan. He served as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) from 2009 to 2011, Superintendent of Police (SP) from 2004 to 2009, and Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) from 1998 to 2004.
Academically, Chauhan is an alumnus of the London School of Economics, where he earned an LLM in Criminology and Criminal Justice during 2005–06 as a Chevening Scholar.
His appointment comes at a time when Ministry of Interior continues to play key role in internal security, law enforcement coordination, and national security policy. Chauhan’s extensive background in intelligence, policing, and security management is expected to strengthen the ministry’s institutional capacity during his tenure.
