China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged an immediate halt to conflict in the Middle East and called for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz at the earliest during talks with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi in Beijing.
According to a statement from China’s foreign ministry on Wednesday, he emphasised that continued negotiations are vital to resolving tensions.
Reaffirming Beijing’s stance, Wang highlighted China’s commitment to reducing tensions and said direct engagement between the two sides remains key.

According to the Iranian media, Wang also criticised the United States and Israel’s attack on Iran, describing it as unjustified. He noted that the region is at a critical stage and underlined that a comprehensive ceasefire is essential for maintaining stability.
Araghchi welcomed China’s clear position, particularly its condemnation of the US-Israel actions, and expressed confidence that cooperation between Tehran and Beijing would further strengthen. He added that Iran is seeking a “fair and comprehensive” agreement in its dealings with the United States.
