Wana attack foiled

ON Monday, our security forces successfully foiled a terrorist attack on Cadet College Wana in South Waziristan, once again demonstrating their vigilance, professionalism and unyielding commitment to the safety of the nation.

The assailants, belonging to Fitna al-Khawarij, a terrorist group backed by India, sought to breach the college’s perimeter security. Their aim was chillingly clear: to carry out a massacre akin to the 2014 Army Public School (APS) attack in Peshawar, a tragedy that still haunts the nation’s collective memory. However, thanks to the swift response of security forces, the attackers were neutralized, with two terrorists killed.

What makes this attack even more sinister is the fact that the terrorists were in direct contact with their handlers in Afghanistan, who were reportedly directing the operation from across the border. Afghanistan is a safe haven for militants who continue to launch attacks against Pakistan, undermining the promises made by the Afghan Taliban regarding the elimination of such groups. Despite Pakistan’s repeated calls for action, the Afghan authorities have failed to curb the activities of these cross-border militants.

The failure to rein in these groups only emboldens the terrorist groups, allowing them to operate with impunity and target innocent lives. The involvement of India in sponsoring such acts of terrorism adds another layer of complexity to the situation. After its failure to achieve military objectives in the recent conflict with Pakistan, India has increasingly turned to proxy warfare using terrorist groups to destabilize the region. These cowardly tactics are a clear indication that India, unable to confront Pakistan directly, is now resorting to indirect means to sow discord and fear. However, such tactics will ultimately prove ineffective in the face of Pakistan’s resolute determination to protect its sovereignty and the lives of its people. The nation remains proud of its forces and their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the country. Our military’s professionalism, expertise and ability to neutralize such threats rapidly instill confidence in the public. The forces’ ongoing operation Azm-e-Istehkam aimed at eradicating terrorism and its foreign sponsors will continue with full determination, sending a strong message to those who seek to harm Pakistan: terrorism will not succeed. While the enemy may resort to proxies, Pakistan will not be intimidated. The nation stands firm, ready to protect its future and defend its sovereignty.
