EPL midweek action saw Aston Villa, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and a resurgent Newcastle United registering wins in their respective matches.

Aston Villa defeated Leeds United 3-0 at their home to hand their newly appointed coach a second successive defeat in as many games.

Leeds remains embroiled in a Premier League relegation scrap after Phillipe Coutinho, Matty Cash, and Calum Chambers scored for the visiting side who are on an upward trend under Steven Gerrard. Villa’s third win in a row lifted them to ninth in the standings.

The hosts now sit just 2 points above the relegation zone on 23 points but Burnley, currently in 18th has a two-game advantage in hand.

Wolverhampton Wanderers thumped a sorry Watford side 4-0 at Molineux in another fixture. Wolves scored three times inside the opening 21 minutes ending the contest before it even began.

Raul Jiminez, Daniel Prudence, Ruben Neves, and a Cucho Hernandez own goal meant the visitors slipped to the 19th spot in the table and remain one of the favorites to be relegated from the Premier League this season.

Newcastle, meanwhile, continued their resurgence in the EPL with another important comeback win over Southampton at Saint Mary’s Stadium.

Stuart Armstrong gave the hosts the lead in the 25th minute with a deflected header but Chris Wood equalized for the visitors before Brazilian Bruno Guimaraes grabbed his first goal for Newcastle by back-heeling the ball into the net following a corner.

The win takes Newcastle closer to safety after early troubles in the Premier League’s current season.
