Uzbekistan to mend airport in northern Balkh province

Special representative of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Esmatullah Ergashev said that his country is willing to repair the Maulana Jalaluddin Muhammad Balkhi airport in the northern Mazar-e-Sharif city of Balkh province.

Esmatullah Ergashev in his meeting with provincial officials of the Balkh province on Sunday, November 14 said that a team of 30 technicians has been dispatched from Uzbekistan to cooperate with the Afghans to reconstruct the international airport.

The special representative said the Uzbek team will help in repairing the technical damages and equipment and training staff of the airport.

Afghan officials have also urged the expansion of bilateral trades with Uzbekistan and asked the special representatives to cooperate with Afghanistan in economic areas.

The provincial governor of Balkh province also asked Uzbekistan not to cut the imported electricity and that Afghanistan will pay the debts once the banking systems get fully operational.

Afghanistan currently owes Uzbekistan over $62 million of the electricity being imported from the country.— Agencies
