Playing in San Francisco, the hosts delivered a composed performance to book their spot in the next stage of the tournament. Folarin Balogun opened the scoring for the United States before Malik Tillman added a second goal to seal a comfortable victory.
The win sends the United States into the pre-quarterfinals, where they will face Belgium for a place in the quarterfinals.
