WASHINGTON – The United States has termed the arrest of retired army officer, including former ISI chief Lt Gen retired Faiz Hameed, an “internal matter”.

Responding to a question regarding the high-profile arrests by the Pakistan Army, Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh said, “That’s really a Pakistani internal matter for them to speak to. As you know, the US values our partnership with Pakistan and engage with both military and civilian leaders based on mutual interests”.

“And we remain committed to working with Pakistan to support regional stability and our mutual goals, and I’ll just have to leave it at that,” she said.

A day earlier, Pakistan Army took three retired officers into custody in connection was the case registered against former ISI chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed.

The ISPR confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday, stating: “In connection with the FGCM proceedings of Lt Gen (Retd) Faiz Hameed, three retired officers are also in military custody for their actions prejudicial to military discipline”.

Further investigations of certain retired officers and their accomplices for fomenting instability at the behest of and in collusion with vested political interests are continuing, the military’s media wing said.

Earlier this week, Faiz Hameed was taken into custody by Armed forces in the Top City case.

Army’s media wing had said the action was initiated as Supreme Court of Pakistan conducted a thorough investigation into the Top City Case involving Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd).

The inquiry aimed to assess legitimacy of complaints against former spymaster. Consequently, disciplinary measures have been taken against him under the Pakistan Army Act, and he faces a Field General Court Martial due to identified violations of the Army Act after his retirement.

‘Faiz Hameed Arrested’

An inquiry committee was formed by serving major general, to address allegations of authority misuse by the former Director General of country’s top spy agency. Hameed’s detention was part of an effort toward self-accountability.

The housing giant sought action against Hameed of orchestrating a raid on the offices and residence of its owner, Moeez Khan. Following a Supreme Court directive in November 2023, Khan was advised to seek resolution from relevant authorities, including the defence ministry. The inquiry committee will now prepare and submit its findings to the appropriate authorities.
