United States Vice President JD Vance has said that bringing down oil prices and restoring free transit through Strait of Hormuz was immediate priority in the Iran war.
According to the media reports, he stated that preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon remains a secondary objective.
Vance acknowledged that oil prices had fallen from their early-conflict highs, but stressed that keeping energy costs affordable for Americans was the administration’s foremost goal.
“Our first priority is to keep oil and gas prices low for Americans,” he said, while adding that the US also remained committed to ensuring Iran does not obtain a nuclear weapon.
Meanwhile, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned that Washington is preparing additional economic measures against Tehran, describing the planned pressure as unprecedented.
Bessent said the new measures, expected next week, would seek to isolate Iran economically on a scale not previously seen. He also said the ongoing blockade around the Strait of Hormuz would prevent goods from entering or leaving Iranian ports, further increasing economic pressure on Tehran.
