WASHINGTON – The US State Department has planned to close its five of diplomatic mission abroad.
Reports, citing sources, said the department has informed the Congress about the plan to close US diplomatic posts in St. George’s, Grenada; Nagoya, Japan; Medan, Indonesia; Douala, Cameroon; and Winnipeg, Canada.
The proposal revives an initiative first considered during the Trump administration, when officials examined closing nearly a dozen diplomatic missions in foreign countries as part of a broader effort to reshape the federal government under the “America First” agenda.
The White House Office of Management and Budget had previously supported deeper reductions, with reports indicating that as many as 30 diplomatic posts were under consideration for closure.
Congress is expected to review the proposal as the process moves forward.
