ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has suspended an order requiring the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to disclose financial information including salaries relating to players representing the national team across all formats.
Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar issued a stay order on a petition filed by the PCB, temporarily putting on hold a July 9 decision of the Pakistan Information Commission (PIC) until the next hearing.
The court also issued notices to the Pakistan Information Commission and citizen Kashif Shehzad Awan, seeking their responses to the PCB’s petition.
Appearing before the court, PCB counsel Kashif Malik argued that the information requested went beyond general institutional expenditure.
He maintained that the request also covered individual players’ personal financial details, salaries, match fees, central contracts, allowances and other benefits, as well as confidential contractual information.
The PCB’s lawyer contended that disclosure of such information could involve private financial matters and details contained in confidential agreements.
The court, after hearing initial arguments, suspended implementation of the Information Commission’s directive until further proceedings.
The court, later, adjourned the hearing, with the matter to be taken up again after the respondents submit their replies.
