UoG greener campaign targets 1,500 new trees

A tree planting drive was launched here at Hafiz Hayat Campus in line with the directives of the Punjab Higher Education Department.

Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shabbar Atiq inaugurated the campaign by planting a fruit tree sapling at the campus.

The UoG had kick-started the campaign on July 13, 2021, as part of the Prime Minister’s ‘Billion Tree Campaign’ under the varsity’s Estate Care and targeted plantation of 1,500 trees during the ongoing country-wide initiative for a cleaner, greener Pakistan.

“I think it is the best contribution to our motherland, and we need to take it as our shared national responsibility to plant more and more trees

We also need to continue to look after them till they are fully grown up,” Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Shabbar Atiq said after inaugurating the campaign by planting a tree at the campus.

The vice chancellor highlighted the need for creating awareness among the masses about the benefits of planting more trees. He said that plantation and protection of trees is our shared responsibility.

UoG deans, directors, HoDs, senior administration officials and other staff were present on the occasion.

The participants each planted saplings in the front lawns of the Vice Chancellor’s Office building.

n-charge Estate Care Dr Sajjad Hussain Sumra said that fruit tree saplings of ‘jaman, mango, falsa, loquat, neem and lilac’ would be planted, adding that they had been produced by the campus nursery.
