UO hosts 2-day moot on plant sciences

The University of Okara’s (UO) Department of Botany organized 2nd International Conference on Recent Innovations in Plant Sciences and Natural Products. In the two-day event, researchers and scholars from more than 25 universities participated.The conference served as a platform for the exchange of cutting-edge research and ideas in the field of botany and natural products with 25 keynote lectures delivered by eminent experts and 40 presentations highlighting the latest advancements.

Prof DrJavaidAkhtar, UO’s Vice Chancellor, was the Patron-in-Chief of the conference that was convened by the Chairperson, Department of Botany, DrFahimArshad. DrNailaMukhtar served as the Conference Secretary while DrNida was the Focal Person. The moot was moderated by DrBinishKhaliq and Saman Amin. The technical review committee included DrSyedaAnjumTahira, Dr Muhammad Iqbal and DrShafiq Ur Rehman.

The international keynote speakers included Prof Dr Mohammad Fawzy from Mecca, Pro Dr Khalid Mahmood from Turkey, Prof DrMariusz from Poland, Dr Muhammad Adnan from America, DrKatarzyna from Poland and Prof DrWaseem Ahmed from Japan. All of these renowned scholars, except Prof Waseem, participated in the event through video link. Besides these foreign figures, there were a bunch of national scholars as well. Those included Prof DrArshadJavaid and Prof DrTahminaAnjum from University of the Punjab, Prof Dr M. Ovais Omer from University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Prof DrNadeemAkhtar from Ghazi University, Prof DrAamir Nawaz and Prof Dr Ahmed Akram from BahauddinZakariya University, Prof DrAbrarHussain from University of Education, Prof DrAamir Ali from University of Sargodha and Prof DrRizwanRasheed from Government College University Faisalabad.

The conference was sponsored by PASTIC, Pakistan Science Foundation, IrfanPharma and Rays Technologies.

Topics covered during the conference spanned a wide range of areas, including plant physiology, taxonomy, ethnobotany, and the medicinal properties of natural products.
