Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in a collaborative effort, a local NGO Blue Veins, and the National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR) successfully hosted a Provincial Consultative Workshop with Public Sector Universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, focusing on the effective implementation of the 2 percent education quota for minorities in Higher Education.
This event, attended by dignitaries from 23 public sector universities including Vice Chancellors, Registrars, and Director Admissions, and other senior management marked a significant stride towards inclusivity in education. The gathering also witnessed participation from Government functionaries such as the Right to Information Commission, Directorate General for Law & Human Rights, Higher Education Department, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and representatives from minority communities.
The consultation highlighted that two percent admission quota for religious minority in 27 public universities was notified in 2021, while to improve access to higher secondary education 2% at the Intermediate and 1% quota at the level of Associate Degree Program/ BS Program was also approved in 2022 by Directorate of Higher Education.
Additional Director Academics Directorate of Higher Education addressing the Consultation shared, “to ensure compliance and facilitate universities in improving implementation, HED has integrated Information Management System compiling relevant information related to 2% quota which exemplifies a new benchmark in governance and transparency.
University representatives unanimously affirming their commitment, underscored the need for a central reporting mechanism to monitor progress and identify compliance gaps annually.
