The Convener of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, has stressed the need to monitor the grim situation of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir by the UN Human Rights Council.
Muhammad Farooq Rehmani in a statement issued in Islamabad expressed grave concern over the failure of the world community during the recent session of the UN General Assembly to address the Kashmir question and to bring the authority of the UN on it in a practical manner to end the Indian tyranny in the occupied territory.
He said the presence of UN Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan along the Line of Con-trol in the developing situation in the backdrop of the 05 August, 2019 cannot deliver justice accord-ing to the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
Therefore, he said, a mechanism must be created to allow the UN Human Rights Council to monitor the plight of the people of IIOJK.
Muhammad Farooq Rehmani maintained that such a step would also fulfill the aim and objective of the Office of the UN High Commissioner’s re-ports of 2018 and 2019 that were of paramount im-portance in the given situation of Jammu and Kashmir.
He deplored the inaction of the Security Council in the matter of the implementation of its resolutions that guaranteed the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people.
“The earlier this right is granted to the Kashmiris, the better would be for the regional and international peace,” he stated. —KMS
