As the United Nations Day is being observed across the globe, today, Kashmiris are awaiting the implementation of the world body’s resolutions regarding plebiscite.

A report released by Kashmir Media Service, today, said when the UN is marking 78th anniversary of its official founding, India continues to flout Security Council resolutions on Kashmir.

It said, United Nations Day is another reminder that the Kashmir dispute remains unresolved despite being on the UN’s agenda for over 7 decades, adding it is time to express resolute support to the struggling Kashmiris.

The report said, the United Nations resolutions reaffirm Kashmiris’ right for a free and fair referendum and the UN is duty-bound to fulfill its responsibilities regarding Kashmiris’ right to self-determination. The Kashmir dispute is the oldest one on the agenda of the United Nations, it added. The BJP-led Indian government’s 5th August 2019 brutal, undemocratic and unconstitutional actions violate UN resolutions on occupied Jammu and Kashmir, it said.

The report maintained that unresolved Kashmir dispute puts a question mark on the UN’s credibility as it is the responsibility. The report said, the peace and democratic world must support Kashmiris’ struggle for UN-sanctioned right to self-determination, adding settlement of the Kashmir dispute as per UN resolutions is imperative for peace and stability in South Asia.

Meanwhile, the constituent parties of All Parties Hurriyat Conference including Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Political Movement, Jammu and Kashmir Freedom Front, and Jammu and Kashmir Employees Movement, in a joint statement issued in Srinagar deplored that India continues to violate the UN Security Council resolutions on Kashmir.—KMS
