CHIEF of General Staff UK Army General Sir Patrick Nicholas Yardley Monrad Sanders, during a meeting with Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, on Wednesday acknowledged the remarkable achievements and sacrifices of Pakistan Army in the fight against terrorism and efforts for bringing peace and stability in the region. Such recognition from important countries such as the United Kingdom has its importance to counter negative narratives and stereotypes that are associated with Pakistan and showcase its active role as a responsible global actor. This also highlights the importance of international cooperation in countering terrorism and reinforces the strong bilateral ties between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
Pakistan has long been at the forefront of the global war on terrorism. Situated in a region plagued by instability and militant networks, the country has faced its fair share of security challenges. Over the years, the Pakistan Army has demonstrated immense resilience and courage in combating terrorist organizations. The success against terrorism has come at a great cost too as the Pakistan Army has suffered immense casualties with thousands of soldiers sacrificing their lives in the line of duty. These brave men and women have displayed unparalleled bravery and dedication in their efforts to protect not only their own nation but also the global community from the menace of terrorism. In this backdrop, not only the Pakistani nation but the whole world owes to our defence forces. And we expect that other important countries will also duly recognize these sacrifices. In fact what our forces achieve regardless of limited resources, the well-equipped NATO forces could collectively not achieve in Afghanistan. Now under the dynamic leadership of General Asim Munir, we see a renewed focus and great successes of intelligence based operations against the terrorists. Most recently, the ISI apprehended a High Value Target (HVT) Gulzar Imam alias Shambay which is being seen as an important development to restore peace and stability in the strategic province of Balochistan. Given the courage and professionalism demonstrated by our forces over the years, we have no doubt in saying that the remnant elements will find no space anywhere in the country. It is also for countries like the United Kingdom to enhance cooperation with Pakistan and extend full support to it to achieve the goal.
