ISTANBUL – A Turkish Airlines flight escaped tragic incident as pilot lost consciousness mid-air and later passed away.
The co-pilot quickly managed to quickly took control of the passenger jet while crew rushed to provide first aid to 59-year-old Captain Ilcehin Pehlivan. Despite their efforts, Pehlivan was pronounced dead before flight made an emergency landing in New York City.
The Airbus A350 landed safely landed briefly and passengers continue their journey to Turkey. Captain Pehlivan for last 17 years and had recently passed a routine health check in March this year.
As per airline records, there were no issues that could affect his flying ability. Turkey’s air traffic controllers’ association expressed their condolences and acknowledged Pehlivan’s contributions to the aviation community during his career.
Turkish aviation faced several significant air crashes over times. Over 300 were killed in 70s while 2009 Amsterdam crash killed 9.
More recent incidents, like the Pegasus Airlines Flight 2193 in 2020, involved runway excursions but had no fatalities.
