Trump Warns Iran of More Strikes, Threatens Naval Blockade

US President Donald Trump warned Iran of more military strikes on Wednesday night following attacks that took place a day earlier.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, before meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, he said, “I’ll give a little warning: We’re going to hit them hard tonight.”

Trump also declared that the memorandum of understanding reached with Iran to end the conflict was no longer in effect, saying the agreement was “over” and adding that he had no interest in resuming engagement with Tehran.

The US president further revealed that Washington is considering reinstating a naval blockade on Iranian ports, reversing a measure that had been lifted under the preliminary ceasefire agreement reached on June 17.

“We may reimpose the blockade,” Trump told reporters, adding that the proposed restrictions would apply only to Iran, while other countries would remain free to continue their maritime trade.

He also claimed Iran could deploy naval mines if given the opportunity, but said the US possesses the minesweepers needed to remove any such threats.

Trump further said that several NATO member states had offered during the alliance’s summit to send minesweepers to the region as tensions continue to rise.
