The commemoration of the 99th founding anniversary of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi was much more than a ceremonial occasion. It was a reaffirmation of the deep-rooted friendship and strategic partnership between Pakistan and China, a relationship that has consistently withstood the test of time and changing geopolitical realities.
The remarks of Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir aptly captured the essence of this enduring bond. Describing Pakistan Armed Forces and the PLA as true partners bound by mutual trust, unwavering support and a shared commitment to regional peace and stability, he underscored a reality that has become increasingly evident over the decades. Defence cooperation between the two countries is no longer confined to traditional military exchanges; it has evolved into a comprehensive strategic partnership encompassing training, joint exercises, defence production and coordinated responses to emerging security challenges. The PLA has indeed transformed into one of the world’s most modern and capable military forces, reflecting China’s remarkable progress in technology, innovation and defence preparedness. Its commitment to maintaining regional stability and participating in peacekeeping operations has earned international recognition. China has remained Pakistan’s most reliable strategic partner through difficult regional and international circumstances. Whether in economic development through the CPEC, defence cooperation or diplomatic support on issues of core national interest, Beijing has consistently demonstrated that its friendship with Pakistan is based on mutual respect, shared interests and strategic trust. The rapidly evolving regional security environment makes close coordination between Pakistan and China more important than ever. Traditional and non-traditional security threats including terrorism, cyber warfare, disinformation campaigns among others require collaborative responses. Enhanced military cooperation, technological collaboration and institutional exchanges will further strengthen the enduring partnership between the two countries, reinforcing their shared commitment to safeguarding common strategic interests and promoting lasting peace, stability and security across the region.
