The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) has inaugurated a cutting-edge training and control greenhouse at Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam, one of Pakistan’s most esteemed agricultural institutions. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology and powered by a renewable solar energy system, the greenhouse aims to enhance agricultural research and innovation.
The inauguration ceremony drew TIKA and university officials, along with distinguished guests. Dursun Ali Yasacan, Head of the Department of East and South Asia Pacific and Latin America (DOGAL), highlighted TIKA’s agricultural initiatives in Pakistan and beyond. “We are delighted to inaugurate this modern facility, which symbolizes our ongoing commitment to advancing agriculture in Pakistan,” Yasacan remarked.
Dr. Fateh Marri, Vice-Chancellor of Sindh Agriculture University, praised TIKA’s ongoing support, including their collaborative projects since 2022. He expressed pride in the new greenhouse, emphasizing its role in academic research and practical applications for farmers.
“We value Turkiye’s vast agricultural expertise and look forward to deepening our collaboration,” he added, extending gratitude to TIKA for their contributions to food security in the region.
The ceremony included prayers and a tour of the greenhouse, where officials showcased its advanced electronic systems and highlighted its dual role in supporting university research and addressing challenges faced by farmers.
The greenhouse has already gained attention from both public and private sector visitors, becoming a key attraction at the university. TIKA’s past initiatives with the university include the distribution of wheat seeds to flood-affected farmers in 2022 and home gardening kits for women in Karachi’s Lyari neighborhood in 2023.
The newly established 350 m² greenhouse, supported by renewable energy, is set to bolster academic studies, provide solutions for agricultural issues, and strengthen partnerships between researchers and farmers.
